McPherson Optimist Membership DrivePublish Date: 2008-02-12 The McPherson Optimist Club is alive and well! The numbers tell the story. At next Tuesday morning’s meeting, ten new members will be receiving new member pins and packets of information. Congratulations to them and to their sponsors. Our official club membership is 100.
This year’s membership drive co-chaired by Doug Curtright and Pete Brubaker spanned several weeks and was spiced with the flavor of Texas Hold’em. Not only were new members and guests introduced each week but fun Texas Hold ’em hands were played allowing teams to add or unfortunately subtract points from their totals. These games led by dealer Doug proved to be an exciting addition to a successful membership drive. Team captains Jack Rader, Eldon Weins, John Holthus and John Klenda provided excellent leadership but some were wise enough to have someone else play their poker hands. Thanks to Keith for helping keep track of the points.
The winner was Eldon Wein’s team closely followed by Jack Radar’s team. Hopefully, the winners will be the young people in McPherson who are helped by the numerous projects sponsored by McPherson Optimists.
Thank you to all who participated. Special thanks and congratulations to new members joining either during the drive or just before: Gabe Prescott, Dennis Shaw, Michael Hambley, Anthony Kelley, Megan Spencer, Matthew Foss, Angie McDonald, Mike Nieman, John Worden, and Laird McGregor.
