United Way – Brenda Sales & Paul TaliaferroPublish Date: 2007-09-20 Joining us this week were McPherson County United Way Director Brenda Sales and United Way Chairperson Paul Toliver.
Paul and Brenda presented a nice power point display to illustrate McPherson County’s United Way activities and successes. Brenda noted that McPherson College students had volunteered time to prepare that project helping U.W. save administrative cost.
Brenda and Paul then shared a great deal of information about United Way. This year the McPherson County fund raising campaign goal is $250,000.00. This is a sizeable goal and they believe that based on historical support from McPherson County it can be attained. We learned that U.W. of McPherson operates on a “no fluff” budget, returning 99% of the funds raised back to those in need. A new way of allocating monies has also been established. United Way allocations committee now will focus more on “Program” funding rather than “Agency” funding. Agencies seeking funds will now need to provide specific Program details outlining fund usage plans. Programs will need to be focused around one or more of the following criteria.
- Basic Needs
- Preparation for Life
- Rebuilding Life
- Building Self Reliance
Records indicated that last year the funds raised and allocated out by United Way of McPherson County went to assist 10,000 people of all ages in McPherson County.
Three closing notes from Brenda and Paul were as follows:
- McPherson County United Way fund raising campaign is a COUNTY wide effort in hopes of achieving the goal and to assist all in the county.
- Awareness to the 211 information hotline to find out what services are available.
- History indicates that nearly 50% of the funds raised come from company / employee donation programs. If you are interested in getting your business involved contact Brenda Sales.
