Team Goldsmith wins the last Major Golf event of the year!Publish Date: 2007-08-29 After several attempts, the golf gods were finally kind to the McPherson Optimist Club, as
we were met with absolutely perfect weather conditions for the last "Major" golf outing of this year.
Fourteen golfers played in the three man "shamble" golf tournament, and everyone seemed
to enjoy the weather, the golf and the lunch we were provided afterwards.
The three man team of Tom Goldsmith, Keith Janzen and Dave Chartier combined
for the amazingly low score of only three over par to capture the coveted Fall Optimist Club
Golf Outing championship. Since this is the last major golf event of the year, team
Goldsmith now has bragging rights for at least six months. Second place went to team
Watkins, which also included Jack Rader and John Holthus. They were eleven over par and
were closely followed by the third place team of Lowell Schmidt, Doug Curtright and Bob Baldwin.
You may remember that Doug Curtright has been part of several major Optimist Club golf championships
in the past. In fact, Doug was a member of the winning team on all three of our most recent previous
tournaments. Although third place is very respectable, Doug was somewhat disappointed with his finish this time.
He was quoted to say "I just didn't have my "A" game today". Maybe next time, Doug!
Thanks to all of you who were able to work this outing into your busy schedules. It was a lot of
fun and we are looking forward to more outings next year.
